Japan's largest home delivery services company, Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Keiji Aritomi) (hereinafter "Yamato Transport"), and Japan's largest retail chain of stores offering photographic developing, printing, and enlarging services, Plaza Create Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Yasuhiro Oshima) (hereinafter "Plaza Create"), have developed the "Kuroneko Photo Mail"service for same-day or overnight delivery of photographs with a simple message attached.

To provide this service, Plaza Create has established within the Yamato Transport Distribution Center in Ariake, Tokyo an image processing facility equipped with a digital image output and processing system (Name: Center Laboratory Tokyo Ariake).

The newly developed "Kuroneko Photo Mail"will enable customers to arrange same-day or overnight delivery of photos with a simple message attached to the desired destination anywhere in Japan. The service is available for photos taken with film cameras, digital cameras, or mobile phones equipped with cameras. People residing overseas will be able to use the service via the Internet.

• A New Service to Spread the Excitement and Pleasure of Photographs
  The popularization of digital cameras, the Internet, and mobile telephones with cameras is steadily diversifying ways of enjoying photographs. A lifestyle involving casually and frequently snapping photos and exchanging them over telecommunications networks has become widespread for the convenience and fun that people have come to take for granted. Despite the increase in simplicity and subsequent rise in the number of photos being taken, no mechanism has been put in place to more quickly deliver to consumers actual printed photos with messages attached. In response to consumer requests, "Kuroneko Photo Mail" will rapidly deliver anywhere in Japan printed photographs complete with a personal message.

  As the first phase of the "Kuroneko Photo Mail" service program, Yamato Transport and Plaza Create will offer, for a limited time only before and after New Year's Day 2003, a service to promptly deliver photos with an attached New Year's greeting (for the inaugural year of the service, customers will select from simple standardized greeting formats).

  Note: For the inaugural year, the special New Year's service will not be available for data from mobile phones.

  (2) Order method
  1) Place an order at Palette Plaza (image data is uploaded from the shop).
  Note: Palette Plaza is a nationwide chain of approximately 1,200 photographic services shops operated by Plaza Create. For the inaugural year, the special New Year's service will be limited to a portion of directly operated shops located within Tokyo.
  2) Place an order by accessing the "80210.com" dedicated website from a personal computer.

  (3) Delivery
  1) Same-day delivery: Orders received by noon are delivered the same day within the Tokyo metropolitan area (Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa).
  2) Overnight delivery: Orders not subject to same-day delivery are delivered the following day anywhere in Japan.

  (4) Product format
  A5-size photos enclosed in an envelope
  1) Up to three photos are enclosed.
  2) A simple message can be attached to photos.
  Note: With the service provided this New Year, customers will choose from a prearranged selection of greeting formats.

  (5) Service charge
  Uniform charge of \300 (excluding tax) per destination anywhere in Japan

  (6) Payment method
  1) For orders placed on the dedicated website: payment by credit card (SSL encryption supported)
  2) For orders placed at Palette Plaza shops: payment in cash at the shop

  (7) Period for accepting orders for the inaugural special New Years service
  December 25, 2002 to January 5, 2003
  Note: All orders received during 2002 will be delivered on January 1, 2003.

• Future Developments for the Kuroneko Photo Mail
  Plaza Create and Yamato Transport will expand the scope of the Kuroneko Photo Mail in stages to include birthday greetings, wedding congratulations, childbirth congratulations, school entrance and graduation congratulations, travel announcements, moving announcements, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and other occasions. At the same time, they plan to expand the service in stages to provide nationwide coverage and to begin offering the service for mobile phones with cameras early in 2003.
